WORDE supports fatwa that delivers decisive blow against terrorist propaganda
WORDE would like to express its support for the important work of Shaikh ul Islam Dr Tahir ul Qadri , founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran, who has issued a comprehensive fatwa (religious ruling) that prohibits terrorism and suicide bombing.
The original 600 page Fatwa document was written by Dr Tahir ul Qadri and is one of the most comprehensive documents of its kind to be published in the UK. It contains extracts from the Holy Quran and writings from other traditional scholars. In the document, Dr Qadri makes the case that attacks against innocent citizens are "absolutely against the teachings of Islam and that Islam does not permit such acts on any excuse, reason or pretext." The fatwa document was launched in Pakistan in December 2009 and published in the UK in January 2010. An English language summary and introduction to the fatwa was made available at the press conference and will be published on the web.
WORDE specialist, Hedieh Mirahmadi, who has worked extensively with the Minhaj Quran International organization in the UK had this to say, "It is courageous people like Dr. Qadri who tell the world, mainstream Muslims will not allow the deviant extremists to commit violent acts in the name of Islam. We are happy and honoured to be working with Minhaj-ul-Quran to support the UK Muslims in countering the radical Islamist rhetoric."
Notes:
Dr Muhammed Tahir-ul-Qadri , who now lives in Canada was a former minister in Pakistan is highly recognised and respected as a leading authority on Islamic jurisprudence and has hundreds of thousands of followers around the world. Dr Qadri founded Minhaj-ul-Quran http://www.minhajuk.org/site which has a presence in 80 countries and cultivates Sufi teachings of peace and moderation through grass-roots projects.
WORDE's mission is to help close the critical gap of communication and understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, the gap which leads to conflict, political instability, and social tension. WORDE bridges that gap by bringing together a wide variety of experts from diverse cultures who develop effective, long-term solutions for resource development, educational reform, and international security. |
