Courageous Conversations

Courageous Conversations is an inter-generational workshop tackling issues of bullying and discrimination that WORDE pioneered in partnership with the Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative to empower youth with help seeking behaviors. Since April 2016, the program has been implemented in high schools and community centers across Montgomery County, moderated by WORDE Senior Fellow, Nouf Bazaz. In post- evaluations, the vast majority of student respondents endorsed feeling more confident, connected to diverse communities, increased help-seeking behaviours and reported acquiring more skills in intercultural communication and in addressing bullying and discrimination.

The Courageous Conversation Program has been awarded the 2017 Inter-generational Innovation Award by Generations United, featured in a Generations United report on best practices in intergenerational programming and has also been featured in an NPR podcast, Interfaith Voices.
