Department of Justice: Civil Rights Division

WORDE is member of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Interagency Group which includes government representatives from the Department of Justice, Department of Transportation, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Transportation Security Administration, State Department and Department of Treasury. This group meets regularly in Washington, DC with representatives from the Muslim, Sikh, Arab and South Asian communities to address a range of issues from civil rights, immigration, travel security, to hate crimes. These meetings also enable WORDE to stay informed about government initiatives that affect Muslim communities. WORDE plans to organize town-hall forums for community members in the greater Washington DC area to meet with representatives from the DOJ to learn about their rights and available government services.

Stay Informed: The Civil Rights Division publishes a periodic newsletter, “Religious Freedom in Focus,” about the agency’s ongoing efforts to protect religious freedom.
