The WORDE report, “A Community Based Approach to Countering Radicalization; A Partnership for America,” is one of the first Muslim-led initiatives that explores ways that Muslim communities and policymakers can create bottom-up efforts to address the evolving threat of homegrown radicalization, tackle the dangerous ideology underlying the movement, and engender greater trust between the government and Muslim communities.

A Pledge for Muslim Americans

Muslim community members and organizations that are dedicated to combating violent extremism within the American Muslim community are invited to sign on to our pledge. This oath represents steadfast support of religious freedom of all persons, non-violence in conflict resolution, and the preservation of the US Constitution as our rule of law. It also signals a commitment to collaborate with policymakers, law enforcement officials and public officials at the federal, state and local levels to collectively address the growing threat of homegrown terrorism.
eShaykh.com
eShaykh.com is an educational resource for American Muslims seeking answers on a range of inquiries from the basic fundamentals of Islam to specific questions on prayer, women’s rights, and health issues. Submitted questions are answered by a team of trusted, classically trained scholars using a framework of traditional and contemporary interpretations of Islamic teachings, texts and historical Islamic jurisprudence. The explanations are presented in an authentic religious paradigm that is palatable to even at-risk Muslims.
International Cultural Center
In 2011 WORDE established a new cultural center for the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Located in Gaithersburg, MD, the ICC is a forum where people from all traditions can converge to promote principles of peace, social harmony and plurality through prose, music, meditation and sacred movement.
We are developing the center to become a space for cultivating positive social networks — where the community can foster a sense of belonging and youth can channel their energy into peaceful, productive outlets. WORDE will organize educational programming for the community and host workshops, seminars and lectures on a range of issues including meditation, peace-building and conflict-resolution, cultural pluralism, religious tolerance, civic engagement, and women’s issues.
The 33,000 square foot building is available for cultural and religious events, conferences, book launches, poetry readings, graduation celebrations, weddings, family events, and other community events. To reserve the space, please contact Samia Haque (samia@theicc.net).
For recent and upcoming events, please visit ICC Website.
